Prevention & Community Support (PCS), in collaboration with our many homelessness prevention partners, provides comprehensive programs to avoid shelter entry and reentry, combat the many drivers of homelessness and keep families and individuals stably housed within their community. PCS has oversight and administers around 70 million dollars in Homelessness Prevention Contracts, including our network of Homebase providers and several other community-based organizations providing Homelessness Prevention Services.
The Prevention Community Support is recruiting for one (1) Community Coordinator to function as a Senior Coordinator who will:
- Provide technical assistance and support to HomeBase and other CBO providers; provide support by ensuring compliance with performance standards and positive outcomes and participate in case reviews and audit activities as required.
- Participate in meetings to help formulate new initiatives designed to serve homeless/at-risk families with children and single and adults and make policy recommendations.
- Participate and represent unit in community activities and participate in intra/inter agencies meetings and conferences.
- Conduct site visits and maintain liaison with Homelessness Prevention and Community Support programs and other program related entities.
- Ensure the HomeBase and other CBO Providers establish contact with clients in accordance with program protocol and participate in special projects.
- Respond to request for information/documentation from PCS leadership and homelessness prevention providers.
- Advocate for clients’ needs and the effective implementation of the HomeBase and other CBO services and assist in conducting/participating in presentation/orientation/meetings representing PCS.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required Knowledge of working with vulnerable populations Knowledge of computer systems (Microsoft office –word, excel, PowerPoint) Knowledge of DSS/HRA/DHS Systems (WMS, CARES, Workers Connect, IQ) Knowledge of Homelessness Prevention Services
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
