The Business Development and Special Events Division enhances the user experience of park patrons by developing exciting and innovative concession and programming opportunities while ensuring top quality internal controls and inspection standards. From iconic concessions, like the Coney Island Cyclone to Wollman Rink, to large-scale special events like Adventures NYC and Great Lawn concerts, to industry-standard quality control initiatives like the Parks Inspection Program (PIP), the Division’s wide-ranging and diverse portfolio offers the opportunity to work on premiere Agency projects at the heart of how a visitor experiences a New York City park.
Major Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, perform difficult and responsible work for the Business Development and Special Events (BDSE) division, including administrative office support and special project management for the Assistant Commissioner, Director of Business Operations and the Division’s leadership team.
- Work closely with units across the BDSE Division including Parks’ Marketing, Special Events, Concessions, Operations and Management Planning, and Waterfront and Marine Operations units on various projects including but not limited to strengthening the Division’s efficiency through the use of data and analytics, special event staffing, and concession project management.
- Work with the Director of Business Operations to develop strategies and initiatives to strengthen Agency support through BDSE units and human resource support for BDSE Division.
- Work closely with Division leadership to develop, update and maintain standard operating procedures.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and the public. Ensure that all requests and concerns are resolved.
- Prepare briefings, presentations and infographics and perform quantitative and qualitative data analyses.
- Attend public meetings, work with elected officials, community boards and other constituent groups on project related matters.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports for the Commissioner and the Mayor’s Office.

MOVEMENT IN THE FACE OF CIVIL SERVICE LISTS IS PROHIBITED UNDER CIVIL SERVICE LAW.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Strategic and analytic thinking, superior judgment, and ability to work independently and initiate projects. 4. Financial analysis experience. 5. Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as graphics programs. 6. Valid New York State driver license.
