The NYC Mayor's Office administers all city services, public property, most public agencies, and
enforces all city, state, and federal laws within New York City. New York City’s Mayor, Eric Adams is
head of the executive branch of New York City's government. Mayor Adams has served the people of
New York City as an NYPD officer, State Senator, and Brooklyn Borough President. The Adams’

The Team You’ll Work With

The Office of Federal Affairs coordinates the City's interaction with the Federal administration and
Congress. The office keeps the Mayor and City agencies informed about pending or important issues
affecting the City. The office also advocates on behalf of the city and is the DC liaison between the City
and other cities seeking to work together on federal issues

The Problems You’ll Solve

The Senior Advisor for Federal Affairs will help to develop and oversee federal policies for the Mayor's
Office in coordination with relevant city-wide agencies within their respective legislative portfolio.
The Deputy Director for Federal Affairs will have primary responsibility of handling Mayor Eric Adams’s
work on: foreign affairs, immigration, defense, homeland security, health and human services, and
labor policy. The position requires the ability to draft policy letters, manage multiple priorities, and
work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.

As a member of the Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA) team, the Deputy Director for Federal Affairs will:
- Help to manage external relations with the New York City Congressional delegation, Congress,
The White House, and federal agencies as it relates to foreign affairs, immigration, defense,
homeland security, health and human services, and labor policy.
- Help to oversee legislative portfolios and responsibilities within the Federal Affairs Office while
reporting updates to the Director for Federal Affairs.
- In coordination with the Mayor’s IGA team, provide response to inquiries and requests from
- federal partners as it relates outlined policy areas and legislative portfolio.
- Advocate for policies benefiting New York City on the federal level.
- Work to secure federal grants, make comments on legislation, and manage federal
appropriations within outlined policy areas and legislative portfolio.
- Help the Director for Federal Affairs prepare talking points, presentations, and briefings for the
Mayor, Deputy Mayors, and other key staff, as well as for external stakeholders, and coordinate
outreach and special events.
- Create strategic plans and advocate for federal policies within outlined policy areas and
legislative portfolio to establish new initiatives, raise awareness about federal policies, and
engage with stakeholders as well as the general public; and
- Monitor, research, and distribute relevant federal updates to the Director for Federal Affairs
and IGA staff.

About You

- You have a Bachelor’s Degree.
- You have strong interpersonal, collaborative, time-management, and organizational skills
- You have broad experience working with the federal government or relevant policy experience, and
national allies is preferred, particularly on issues related to appropriations.
