The Team You’ll Work With:
The Deputy Mayor for Operations oversees a robust portfolio of City Agencies, including the Departments of Citywide Administration Services, Design & Construction, Environmental Protection, Parks and Recreation, Records, Sanitation, Technology & Innovation, Transportation, as well as the New York City Fire Department and NYC Emergency Management. The Deputy Mayor of Operations also oversees the Mayor’s Offices of Capital Project Delivery, Climate & Environmental Justice, Environmental Coordination, Data & Analytics, Contract Services, Nonprofit Services, and Operations.
The Problems You’ll Solve:
Reporting to the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Mayor for Operations (DMO), the Senior Advisor will be responsible for the following:
- Serve as a liaison between the DMO and the Departments of Parks & Recreation, Transportation, and Sanitation.
- Advance Administration priorities related to transportation planning and safe streets, open space access and programming, and sanitation policy.
- Lead inter-agency coordination and collaboration to support and ensure project and program delivery.
- Provide program and project management and oversight, especially on sensitive, logistically complex, and high-visibility initiatives.
- Guide agency staff who establish, implement, and monitor aggressive and streamlined schedules, budgets, and deliverables while mitigating setbacks and impacts.
- Anticipate regulatory processes and critical path items to ensure that they do not impede the progress of project goals and objectives.
- Provide and develop strategic guidance, direction, and assistance, with an understanding of operational feasibility on execution.
- Work with Intergovernmental Affairs, City Legislative Affairs, State Legislative Affairs, and Federal Legislative Affairs to address incoming requests from elected officials and support agencies.
- Develop and maintain positive and robust stakeholder relationships with nonprofits, community-based organizations, and advocates.
- Manage at least one Policy Advisor and additional staff as appropriate.
- Develop and facilitate systems and processes for City Hall coordination.
- Coordinate across Deputy Mayor teams.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 7+ years of experience in policy or programming related to transportation design and planning, and/or parks and recreation planning, and/or sanitation policy and planning.

2. Do you have an associate degree from an accredited college or university along with two (2) years of experience with administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison responsibilities?
3. Do you have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent approved by a state's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization along with four (4) years of experience as described in question "2" above?
4. Do you have a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that described in questions "1," "2," and/or "3" above?
- You have experience working in government, and prior experience with administrative and emergency management processes. - You can support the creation of new policies and programs that advance the Administration’s priorities. - You can advise senior leaders on the latest trends related to transportation, parks, and sanitation. - You have a significant track record of operational experience and executing tight deadlines. - You can present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language. - You are highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail. - You have extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
