The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services is responsible for ensuring that agencies who oversee the City’s Social Services programming are run compassionately, equitably, and effectively, and that the City’s public health and healthcare delivery systems are delivering results for all New Yorkers. With a portfolio that amounts to approximately $22 billion, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services is focused on implementing bold efforts within and across City Agencies and the Mayor’s Offices.
Working in the NYC Mayor’s Office at City Hall within the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, the Senior Advisor will focus on both longer-term projects and day-to-day City Hall and agency management, particularly in the areas of public health and areas of intersection with the newly created Mayor’s Office of Asylum Seeker Operations.
Priority workstreams may include monitoring and developing strategies to promote public health among migrants; coordinating between agencies involved in the asylum seeker response and DMHHS team and developing public engagement strategies related to migrants and others. In addition, the Senior Advisor will be charged with day-to-day management of H+H activities, especially with respect to the migrant response. As relevant, the Policy Advisor will identify and manage pertinent cross-agency opportunities and working groups to enhance cross-team collaboration within the Office and with other Deputy Mayors’ portfolios.
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services (HHS) is recruiting for one (1) Senior Advisor who will:
- Work with the DMHHS team to direct diverse topics including health services for asylum seekers, maternal and child health, behavioral health promotion, substance use and overdose prevention, and other public health issues to advance public health policies and programs and improve health outcomes for New Yorkers.
- Labor with all agencies involved in the asylum seeker response effort and the Mayor’s Office of Asylum Seeker Operations to coordinate activities related to asylum seekers in our portfolio.
- Assist with the day-to-day management of H+H, including monitoring, reviewing, contributing to, and managing audits, information requests, investigations, public reporting, new activities and initiatives and City Council hearings.
- Generate policy briefings and project-related documents including talking points and project work plans. Perform qualitative and quantitative assessments of health policy proposals, including budget review and legislation. Make recommendations to the Deputy Mayor, Chief of Staff, and other senior staff within the Mayor's Office.
- Ensure robust reporting, tracking, risk identification, management, and appropriate synthesis of issues for the Deputy Mayor and other key staff as required.
- Liaise with appropriate agency leadership and with key staff at City Hall.
- Actively resolve roadblocks and challenges as appropriate and escalate issues as needed.
- Ensure appropriate engagement with external contributors.
Work Location: 22 Read Street, NY.
Hours/Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Salary Range: $125,000 to $150,000
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years fulltime satisfactory professional experience related to the projects and policies to be studied in the position including
eighteen months of experience in a managerial, consultative, administrative, or supervisory capacity.
