Job Description
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Secretary to the Executive Deputy Commissioner will perform a variety of high-level administrative duties that facilitate operation and ensure the smooth functioning of the Executive Office. The selected candidate will:
- Manage complex scheduling assignments. Includes coordinating the scheduling of conference rooms.
- Prepares tables and summary reports, prepares copies and printouts as needed.
- Draft correspondence for the Deputy Commissioner’s signature and maintain confidential files.
- Maintain document tracking and/or filing system.
- Responsible for ordering and tracking of office supplies.
- Screen all written and oral complaints and inquires directed to the Deputy Commissioner by elected officials and members of the public, directing them to the appropriate division for appropriate response and resolution.

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory, progressively responsible clerical, secretarial, administrative and/or general office management experience, one year of which must have been in a responsible administrative, secretarial or supervisory capacity; or"
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and three years of the experience described in "1" above; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one year of the experience described in "1" above; or
4. A combination of education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above.
Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Extensive computer skills including MS Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Crystal Report or other reporting tools are a plus.
