The Remote Access Engineer will be primarily responsible for the maintenance of the existing Remote Access platform serving 70+ customized customer profiles. The selected candidate must possess the ability to understand complex business IT requirements and research, recommend and design technically secure solutions as appropriate.
Responsibilities will include:
- Maintain architectural diagrams of the remote access infrastructure;
- Implement new and manage existing customer access needs;
- Perform hardware and software installations;
- Create and track build of materials to deploy new infrastructure as needed;
- Migrate customer configurations from existing appliances to the new implemented systems for service enhancements;
- Interface with customer technical liaisons to gather requirements and coordinate changes;
- Escalate and track project-related risks with the division manager;
- Apply changes following institutional policies and procedures;
- Create run-books and other procedural documentation necessary to operate the environment;
- Attend foundational infrastructure design meetings and participate in engineering projects;
- Support requested changes in many technical areas including network access controls, domain name service, VPN tunneling, web application firewall, remote access, forward/reverse proxies;
- Review and prioritize service requests and incidents to restore impacted services;
- Prepare and apply security patches to address security vulnerabilities and bug fixes of the managed services;
- Investigate, research and analyze complex network and firewall problems to help resolve common business bottlenecks;
- Analyze logs to discover baselines, detect behavioral patterns and metrics to help optimize operational deficiencies and system performance;
- Participate in periodic change management review meetings;
- Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area, and four years of satisfactory fulltime experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, or administrative duties in a voice and/or data telecommunications or closely related electronics planning, management, and/or service organization, one year of which must have been in a highly specialized capacity and 18 months must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity or in the supervision of staff performing work in the voice and/or data telecommunications field; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent, scientific, technical, electronic or related area and five years of experience as described in "1" above; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of the specialized experience as described in "1" above and must possess the 18 months of executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.
The preferred candidate should possess the following: - Proven experience working with secure remote access technologies - Experience with configuring and implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) - Experience with configuring and troubleshooting remote access technologies including SSLVPN, IPSec, GRE - Strong understanding of network security best practices and principles in an enterprise setting - Experience creating, developing and understanding network architecture and data flow diagrams - Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals - Excellent working knowledge of DNS and NTP in an enterprise environment’ - Excellent working knowledge of network routing in an enterprise environment - Working knowledge of IP addressing, sub-netting and super-netting - Working knowledge of productivity tools including but not limited to: Outlook, Visio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment - Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field - Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment - 8+ years of combined Security and Network Engineering/Architecture experience - 2+ years as a major contributor on large IT projects - Current network or security related certifications such as CCNA, Security+, Network+, CISSP, SSCP
