The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865, FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Department's core values.

Responsibilities and tasks include but are not limited to: monitoring email inboxes to ensure prompt receipt of requests; contacting other FDNY units as necessary to gather all records sought; reviewing documents and flagging privacy or HIPAA issues for the Court Desk Supervisor before release. The position requires providing a courteous and professional demeanor to private law offices, FDNY employees, the New York City Law Department and other city/state agencies such as the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) and District Attorney’s Offices, as well as federal agencies. Although assisting the PAA with requests, the Clerical Associate will be expected to work independently and may serve as a point of contact for parties requesting records. Additionally, the Clerical Associate will ensure compliance with FDNY records access policies, HIPAA, and other privacy laws governing records disclosure.
