The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the city.

The Office of EEO & Diversity seeks a dynamic, solutions-oriented professional to directly support the Agency’s Reasonable Accommodations Program under the New York City Equal Employment Opportunity Policy (EEOP) and other applicable laws.

Job Tasks/Duties:

- Review and processing of employee (including prospective employees) or other client requests for reasonable accommodations regarding the bases as defined in the EEOP and applicable laws.
- Engage in the cooperative dialogue process with employees or other clients, relevant supervisory or managerial personnel, and other stakeholders to determine reasonable accommodations while maintaining operational needs.
- Data entry; ensure proper case documentation and tracking, timely case decisions, and maintaining accurate records using relevant spreadsheets and databases.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, including Human Resources, Legal Affairs, and Environmental Health and Safety, as well as bureau management to ensure case decisions align with applicable policy, regulatory, and other legal standards.
- Assist with workforce training on reasonable accommodation policy and procedural guidance.
- Perform administrative duties related to reasonable accommodations, such as drafting correspondence, coordinating case related meetings, preparing or generating reports and data dashboards, and records management.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, including Legal Affairs, Executive Leadership, and Business Information Technology, as well as external partners, including the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and Department of Citywide Administrative Services to implement DEP’s Accessibility Plan.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory, full-time experience as an investigator evaluating credit worthiness, searching for assets, verifying information concerning education, experience, and other personal qualifications bearing upon character and fitness for employment, or performing investigations involving the research, compilation and/or location of evidence or information in order to build a case or uncover activities of a criminal, corrupt, unlawful or unethical nature; or
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.


Preferred Skills

- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and case management databases. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging in the cooperative dialogue with employees or other clients and stakeholders. - Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism. - Experience working in government or public sector employee support department a plus. - Experience in handling reasonable accommodation requests, EEO or workplace compliance issues, and/or related administrative functions. - Knowledge of ADA, Title VII, the NYC Human Rights Law, EEOC regulations, and the EEOP. - Prior experience managing a moderate to heavy workload or working in a high-intensity environment. - Proficiency in Microsoft Project.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
