The Team You’ll Work With

The Mayor’s Office of Operations (Operations) was created in 1977 to plan, coordinate, and direct governmental operations while holding City agencies and offices accountable for delivering core services. Operations have grown into a project and performance management engine using research, data, and customer service as drivers of good government. Operations are responsible for coordinating multi-agency signature initiatives, helping City Hall make informed policy decisions and strategic, targeted investments.
The Scorecard program rates the cleanliness of New York City’s streets and sidewalks based on regular assessments conducted by a team of service inspectors employed by the Mayor’s Office. For the past 35 years, inspectors have rated blocks throughout the five boroughs to develop monthly cleanliness ratings.

The Problems You’ll Solve

The Scorecard rater reports to the Manager of Performance Observation Unit and performs the following tasks:
- Conducts field inspections using GPS-enabled wireless handheld devices to evaluate City cleanliness levels. Inspections are performed daily using City vehicles. Utilizes routing software and rating applications to log inspection ratings.
- Monitors and reports on the condition of city vehicles and handheld computers used in inspections -- this includes delivering and picking up City vehicles for repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Plans to ensure electric vehicles are charged so that the daily and weekly routes are completed as assigned.
- Proactively works with the Scorecard Supervisor, Manager, and Clerical Associate to troubleshoot any issues with vehicles and/or devices in the field.
- Participates in ongoing training and quality-control programs to ensure data quality and consistency.
- Contributes to discussions and feedback sessions, learns and adapts to new workflows and rating methodologies as needed.
- Helps maintain and update project materials, including route maps and inspection logs.
- Performs special inspection and data collection assignments.
- Routine office and clerical functions associated with inspection activities.
- Assist senior staff members in performing other in-house office and clerical functions as needed.

Minimum Required Qualifications

- You have a valid NY State Motor Vehicle Operations license, required (Each candidate’s driving record will be taken into consideration in determining their eligibility/qualification for appointment).

1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position.
2. Candidates must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license. License must be presented to appointing officer at time of appointing interview. Candidates driving record will be taking into consideration in determining qualification for appointment.

- You have a High School Diploma or its equivalent. - You have prior inspection experience, not required.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
