The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by supplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. We deliver 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water per day to 8.5 million New York City residents and more than 1 million people in Upstate New York, and we collect and treat an average of 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Bureau of Business Information Technology (BIT) is responsible for providing quality business, technical and IT system support to our users. This commitment is realized through collaboration, strong relationships and a unified vision with our partners at DEP in order to provide quality technological solutions to our business needs. This position will be responsible for the maintenance, testing, and repairs of 800MHz, radios, NYCWIN Data Collecting Unit (DCU), Microwave systems, Wave systems, transmitting and receiving equipment in our 15 DEP facility, Maintenance Yards, Pumping Stations, and Sewer Treatment Plants.

The Bureau of Business Information Technology (BIT) seeks to hire one Permanent Radio Repair Mechanic to provide internal support to our Billing for the Future Customer Information Systems, Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and other wireless Network systems.


Under the direction of the Network Infrastructure Unit Head, the Radio Repair Mechanic will be responsible for the duties outlined below:

- Support the agency's Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) Data Collection Unit Network
- system.
- Provide internal Radio Repair, maintenance, and support for the AMR DCU system.
- Responsible for the maintenance, testing, and repair of 800MHZ, radios, NYCWIN Data Collecting Unit (DCU), Microwave systems, Wave systems, transmitting and receiving equipment in
our 15 DEP facilities, Maintenance Yards, Pumping Stations, and Sewer Treatment Plants.


Minimum Qualifications

1. FIVE years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last 10 years as a radio repair mechanic, or as an electronic technician repairing electronic equipment; or

2. At least THREE years of experience as described in "1" above acquired within the last 10 years plus sufficient full-time training of a relevant nature, specializing in electronics, acquired in a trade school, technical school or vocational high school approved by a State's department of education or recognized accrediting organization, to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade school, technical school or vocational high school.

3. Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

4. For appointment to certain positions possession of a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Radiotelephone Operator's License, with a radar endorsement, is required.


Preferred Skills

-. Minimum of 6 years’ experience of recent professional experience in RF network (LTE, UMTS and GSM) administration and minimum 6-year experience with network security protocols, hardware, and software. - Demonstrated experience with network RF an IP infrastructure design including voice, data, and video. - Demonstrated experience with Cisco router, switch configuration and Motorola repeater Mototurbo, MTRP3000 and LMR (APX & XPR). - Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following firewalls: Checkpoint, PaloAlto, Fortigate. IDS/IPS and Syslog knowledge. - CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCDP) certification preferred. - FCC GROL certification preferred. - Demonstrated experience with VPN management and support. - Demonstrated experience with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), and QoS. - Demonstrated experience with wireless network configuration. - Windows Server and Active Directory setup and troubleshooting experience. - Must have outstanding customer service skills, including passion to serve well, and the patience when working with non-technical users. - Problem identification, troubleshooting, and creative problem-solving abilities. - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Certifications/Licenses: - FCC General Radiotelephone Operator’s license (PG) - FCC Marine Radio Operator Permit (MP) - FCC Pip radar Endorsement - Cisco CCENT - CCNA **Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
