Job Description

Major Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, perform complex and responsible administrative functions for the Prospect Park Special Events office.
- Review proposals for individual and group permits, including athletic events, ballfield activities, large special events, film shoots and concession operations. Coordinate the department’s response to permit requests and provide prompt attention to issues requiring immediate resolution.
- Coordinate department operations with other Prospect Park Alliance divisions, NYC Parks units and city agencies to ensure smooth execution of events and activities.
- Monitor, inspect and evaluate permit related activities and overall park usage; enforce Parks rules and regulations to ensure compliance and public safety.
- Conduct staff trainings on customer service, Parks policies and procedures related to permits. Provide guidance on the Parks permit system, radio communication and other assigned equipment.
- Supervise subordinate personnel and volunteers, monitor activities and serve as team leader during events and operational assignments.
- Assist department management and office staff with permit-related functions, including phone communication, public relations, data entry, preparation of reports, schedules and evaluations as needed.
- Attend meetings and represent department management and the Agency as needed.
- Safely operate Parks Department vehicles in the performance of duties.
- Maintain up-to-date records and inventory of equipment and supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills. 2. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. 3. Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekend shifts and most holidays. 4. Capacity to perform essential functions associated with event support and patrol operations. 5. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. 6. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
