NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.

Property Valuation and Tax Mapping is responsible for valuing more than one million properties in the city and overseeing assessments and valuations in a fair and equitable manner. The valuations enable the efficient and effective collection of property tax revenues for New York City.

The Property Division is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our Property Modeling and Research team as a summer intern. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on exciting dashboard projects and gain hands-on experience in the property valuation field as we adapt to New York's changing landscape. This web scraping and visualization project will provide leadership and other teams with crucial insights into the most valuable properties in the city and streamline data collection practices for these high-value properties by building automated processes and helpful visualizations in Power BI.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Collaborate with the team members to understand business requirements for data collection on high-end properties.
- Design and develop interactive and visually appealing dashboards using Power BI.
- Build a scraping workflow that will collect and compile property data from thousands of web pages.
- Extract, clean, and analyze data from various online sources to create meaningful visualizations.
- Work closely with stakeholders to ensure dashboards align with project objectives.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to data visualization or dashboard functionality.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.


Preferred Skills

- Enrolled in a related field of study such as data science, computer science, or a relevant field. - Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI. - Familiarity with web scraping, especially text data from large sets of webpages. - Proficiency with programming languages such as Python, SQL and R. - Experience using relational databases, data mining, and extracting data using SQL is a plus. - Experience with geospatial software such as ArcGIS is a plus. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
