Job Description

The Agency You’ll Join

The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York City's government. Previously, Mayor Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer, state senator, and Brooklyn borough president. The Adams’ administration is leading the fight to serve the people of the greatest city in the world, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, working to make New York City’s economy stronger, reducing inequality, improving public safety, and making the city more affordable that meets the needs of all New Yorkers. We value leadership, transparency, fairness, and efficiency as we actively seek diverse talents from various sectors to join our team.

The Team You’ll Work With

The Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development (“NYC Talent”) works to mobilize New Yorkers and the local talent development infrastructure to achieve an inclusive economy and realize the citywide employment objectives laid out in Mayor Eric Adams’ Executive Order #22. To do this, NYC Talent partners with and mobilizes public agencies, educational institutions, non-profits, unions, communities, and industry so that NYC residents succeed in fulfilling economically secure careers.

- NYC employers can thrive because they hire, train, and advance diverse talent and operate in a supportive local business environment.
- All New Yorkers benefit from shared prosperity.

To promote equity and relentlessly tackle historic employment disparities, we aggregate and align public and private resources to match talent to opportunity; disaggregate data to understand and adapt to the rapidly changing labor market; leverage technology advancements; promote targeted policies; and engage employers and job seekers.

Workforce Development Corporation: The Workforce Development Corporation (WDC) is an independent not-for-profit created by the City of New York. The WDC and NYC Talent work in partnership to jointly develop, fund, and manage workforce and training initiatives to create a skilled workforce in the City of New York.

The Problems You’ll Solve

The Project Manager will play an integral role in NYC Talent’s Apprenticeship Accelerator to support the creation of new apprenticeship opportunities across the city’s talent and workforce ecosystem, with particular focus on the expansion of youth apprenticeship pathways in green collar careers and public service. This position will report directly to the Executive Director of the Apprenticeship Accelerator while working with colleagues from across NYC Talent, in particular with teams from the Center for Youth Employment and sector-specific industry partnerships, and support the development, implementation, and ongoing management of apprenticeship programs in key in-demand occupations and sectors. The Project Manager will also work closely with the Department of Citywide Administrative Services and other city agencies to identify new opportunities for youth and adult apprenticeships in the public sector, leveraging new and expanded programs, partnerships, and administrative strategies and tools, such as civil service, to increase apprenticeship opportunities in municipal government.

Specific Responsibilities:

- Support the Executive Director and Center for Youth Employment colleagues in engaging with City agency partners, providing support and follow-up on various requests related to Apprenticeship Accelerator workstreams. Work with City agencies to secure relevant civil service opportunities for apprentices and promote long-term City employment post-apprenticeship.
- Monitor progress and provide ongoing support to apprentices and supervisors across the city, ensuring that participants remain engaged and committed to their roles.
- Work with City agencies to ensure that participants have access to the necessary training and resources to earn industry-recognized certifications and college credits.
- Gather feedback from participating city agencies on the performance, readiness, and impact of apprentices and supervisors.
- Conduct site visits to meet with employers to assist in program design and/or supporting the drafting and submission of applications for state or federal approval.
- Manage and coordinate recruitment with partner programs, including CareerWise Modern Youth Apprenticeship, Industry Scholars, DCAS, DYCD, CUNY Civil Service Pathways, and other programs.
- Event Planning: work with NYC Talent staff to plan and execute stakeholder events on a regular basis.
- Provide support for projects and operational tasks for the Apprenticeship Accelerator team and other NYC Talent teams, as needed.
