Job Description

The Asbestos Department provides essential and specialized services that support the maintenance and operation of NYCHA's developments. The Department provides technical assistance for routine and emergencies to NYCHA personnel in the fields of asbestos and is responsible for investigating testing, and abatement of Asbestos-related materials.

Under the general supervision of the Director and with latitude for independent initiative, judgment, and decision-making, the selected candidate's duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:

- Maintain a management information system to provide data for the planning and control of project development as related to asbestos tasks.
- Establish project time and cost schedules for all asbestos contracts.
- Determine and coordinate the activities required between the vendors and Departments for project completion of asbestos contracts.
- Review all schedules, reports and orders prepared by the vendors and ensures conformance with project completion dates.
- Check work performance and prepare management reports which stress significant problems.
- Resolve problems that arise in meeting schedules and costs.

Additional Information
1. Due to the existence of a civil service list, candidates must have permanent civil service status in the title of Project Manager to be considered

Minimum Qualifications

1.A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, for engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects; or
2. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus any combination of the experience and/or college education as described in "1" above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience. One year of credit will be given for each 30 semester credits of college education leading to a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration.


Preferred Skills

1. Experience with public housing. 2. Experience using wireless handheld computer devices to record data. 3. Basic computer skills experience using Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
