The Van Cortlandt Park Administrator is charged with maintaining and enhancing Van Cortlandt Park for recreation, leisure and enjoyment of the natural landscape. The Van Cortlandt Park Alliance preserves, supports and promotes the recreational, ecological and historical value of Van Cortlandt Park.
Major Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, with some latitude for independent initiative and judgment, manage the office for the administrator of Van Cortlandt Park.
- Review and process special event permit requests; provide follow-up as needed.
- Work closely with the Borough Recreation Department and Field & Court Coordinator on sports permits for Van Cortlandt Park.
- Work closely with District staff to ensure smooth communication as related to events.
- Prepare reports, maintain records and documents pertaining to special events.
- Conduct frequent site visits and enforce Parks & Recreation rules and regulations to audit permit holders.
- Assist with organizing Van Cortlandt Park-led programs and events; attend events.
- Maintain yearly event statistical information and event filing system.
- Serve as a liaison with Citywide Special Event and Borough Recreation offices.
- Supervise interns, volunteers or seasonal employees as needed.
- Answer telephone inquiries.

MOVEMENT IN THE FACE OF CIVIL SERVICE LISTS IS PROHIBITED UNDER CIVIL SERVICE LAW.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
1. Attention to detail ability to handle sensitive information. 2. At least two years of experience providing quality customer service. 3. Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. 4. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills. 5. Ability to handle a large workload with a variety of deadlines. 6. Valid New York State driver license.
