Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent judgment and initiative, work closely with Senior Forester and Deputy Director for In-House Tree Planting to coordinate and implement administrative needs for the program.
- Work closely with Senior Forester and Project Manager to call for utility mark outs and record codes prior to site excavation and planting.
- Work closely with the Deputy Director, Senior Forester and Park Supervisor to ensure that purchase order needs for program are implemented and managed.
- Assist with development of and provide training for gardeners and supervisors.
- Work closely with supervisors and program manager to route locations for work crews.
- Perform data entry into computer programs, ensuring that all data is entered accurately, and information is organized and easily retrievable.
- Provide general office support. Prepare reports, log correspondence, verify information and track phone calls.
- Report to field office as needed.
- Process and route correspondence for program to the appropriate staff.
- Prepare various reports and briefings using data and information supplied by managers and supervisors.
- Assist the Deputy Director with needs analyses (including developing justifications, budgets and new initiatives), timely reporting and accurate statistical data.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Certification as an Arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture. 2. Excellent management, administrative and communication skills. 3. Experience planning, coordinating and/or supervising forestry programs. 4. Valid New York State driver license. 5. Available to work evenings and weekends.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
