Major Responsibilities

- Under general direction of the Chief and Deputy Chief of Programming and Strategic Management for Recreation, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, develop, deliver and coordinate recreation programming citywide.
- Develop an understanding of New York City’s youth, social, cultural, recreation, sports and fitness programming needs.
- Provide support for multi-generational programming for people of all abilities, such as cultural and arts activities, fitness classes, youth development and sports training.
- Track the progress and produce reports of various programs and provide analytical data related to programs. Develop evaluation tools and processes for related programs including arts & culture, sports, youth and fitness.
- Research new grant opportunities, develop proposals with project managers and provide assistance in the submittal of grant applications. Use metrics and data from established programs to justify requests.
- Assess overall recreation center needs.
- Research and expand Recreation Center membership opportunities and participation in Recreation programming.
- Establish action plans, set goals and ensure deadlines are met.
- Assist with the coordination of special events, scheduling, planning, training and staffing of arts, cultural, sports, youth and fitness programs within the five boroughs. Oversee registration for the Agency’s arts, cultural, sports, youth and fitness programs.
- Develop, oversee and implement grant-funded budgets for arts, cultural, sports, youth and fitness programs.
- Develop new partnerships and serve as a liaison to other city agencies (e.g., Department of Youth and Community Development, Department of Education and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene) and partner organizations.
- Liaise with key stakeholders in Recreation and other NYC Parks divisions.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Bachelor’s degree or further education in Recreation, Sports Management or a related field. 2. 3 years’ experience implementing recreational programming. 3. Experience working with people with disabilities. 4. Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills. 5. Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment. 6. Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access. 7. Ability to initiate and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. 8. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
