Supporting over 550 community gardens and 20,000 volunteer gardeners, GreenThumb is the largest community gardening program in the country. The GreenThumb Operations (GTO) team performs landscaping work, garden renovations, and material deliveries. GTO also manages citywide supply and plant distributions, special projects such as fencing, signage, sidewalk and water installations, and oversees rat abatement and property management.
Major Responsibilities
- Under supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, manage, document, track, and troubleshoot GreenThumb’s property management matters, including but not limited to encroachments, egresses, land acquisition and construction permits.
- Collaborate with multiple Parks units and other City agencies on complex projects that impact community gardens, including but not limited to, development and construction, water infrastructure installations, sidewalk repairs, and capital projects.
- Coordinate with property owners, developers, and contractors to anticipate and mitigate the impacts of construction on community gardens under Parks jurisdiction.
- Lead contract coordination, such as fencing installations, by liaising with vendors and agencies, managing project timelines, and communicating with gardeners and GreenThumb staff.
- Prepare detailed reports of property conditions, including egresses, encroachments, and damages.
- Support operational and administrative functions at GTO and liaise regularly with all GreenThumb staff to ensure clear communications on sensitive projects.

MOVEMENT IN THE FACE OF CIVIL SERVICE LISTS IS PROHIBITED UNDER CIVIL SERVICE LAW.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
1. Familiarity with NYC Parks capital projects processes, property management, general construction and/or permitting. 2. Attention to detail, strong oral/written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills. 3. Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Suite, especially Excel, Teams, Forms and Access. 4. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and work independently or in a team environment as needed. 5.
