Environment and Planning, which is inclusive of Forestry, Horticulture, Natural Resources, and Planning, aims to protect, restore, care for, and expand New York City Parks, nature, and tree canopy to maximize environmental health, community well-being and resilience.

Major Responsibilities
- Under supervision of the Chief of Forestry Programs, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, coordinate administrative aspects of Parks Forestry Programs, including project management, correspondence, strategic planning and scheduling.
- Support the development and implementation of the street and park tree inventories, including stakeholder outreach, scope development, coordination of contracting efforts, data collection and integrity, and management and training of staff, consultants and volunteers as applicable.
- Coordinate with other Environment and Planning teams, other divisions, and external stakeholders, to research, identify, and select technologies, procure contracts, produce marketing materials, and engage partner organizations and community groups to ensure the successful completion of the tree inventories and other initiatives.
- Prepare, update and maintain reports, budgets, trackers and presentations as directed by the Chief of Forestry Programs.
- Serve as a liaison between other division, agency and interagency partners on projects and initiatives that involve Forestry Programs.
- Assist with implementation of policies and procedures to standardize and streamline information flows and data management to support Forestry operations and improve coordination and standardization of Forestry program delivery citywide.
- Assist with correspondence and communications related to Forestry Programs subject matters.
- Assist in the collection, organization, maintenance, and dissemination of data and information relevant to Forestry assets and budgets; manage and maintain metadata and other technical documentation.
- Perform general clerical duties including, but not limited to, scheduling meetings, taking notes, processing correspondence, answering phones, copying, mailing and updating different databases.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Experience with Parks Forestry programs and operations, contracts, government relations, intra- and inter-agency coordination and related fields. 2. Fluency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. 3. Knowledge of Parks’ Forestry Management System (ForMS).

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
