Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction of a Borough Chief of Recreation, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, develop, deliver and coordinate youth programming in Bronx or Queens.
- Assess training and certification needs of Recreation staff leading afterschool, sports and summer camps; assist with the scheduling, planning and implementation of staff trainings.
- Recruit and process seasonal staff related to youth programs.
- Develop evaluation tools and processes for youth related programs including sports, afterschool activities and summer camps.
- Manage the borough Certificate of Occupancy and Letter of No Objection program and status for facilities tied to youth programming.
- Address and relay problems to borough and Citywide leadership for immediate attention.
- Develop new partnerships and serve as a liaison to other city agencies (e.g., Department of Youth and Community Development, Department of Education and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene) and partner organizations.
- Conduct site visits to observe classes and provide feedback to instructors to ensure consistent quality of content.
- Facilitate one-on-one sessions with staff who need mentorship and education.
- Establish action plans, set goals and ensure deadlines are met.
- Track data and produce reports relating to records, attendance, timesheets, snack dispersal and expenditures.
- Assist with participant lotteries using Xplor Recreation software.
- Take responsibility for quality assurance via site visits, audits, parental feedback and interviews.
- Liaise with key stakeholders in Recreation and other NYC Parks divisions.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. A degree from an accredited college or university in a health-related field such as human performance, sports medicine, exercise physiology, kinesiology, nutritional sciences or education. 2. A minimum of 2 years of experience in group exercise instruction and/or exercise physiology instruction. 3. Currently certified in fitness instruction by one or more of the following: American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) or any other accredited health and fitness certifying organization. 4. Currently certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED). 5. Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills. 6. Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access. 7. Ability to initiate and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. 8. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
