THIS IS A TEMPORARY PART-TIME POSITION.
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nation’s oldest and largest public housing authority with more than 176,000 apartments, and responsibility for administering a citywide Section 8 leased housing program that serves over 200,000 additional tenants. The policy team within the Office of the CEO is the primary coordinator of the Authority’s policymaking process and will lead the Authority’s work in developing and evaluating policy. Under the direction of the Vice President of Policy, the Policy Intern will work within the policy team of the Office of the CEO and perform work focused on policy development, analysis, coordination, implementation, and evaluation. In this role, the intern may be asked to work on NYCHA-specific cross-departmental initiatives at the intersection of policy and operations, key NYCHA policies, rules, and regulations addressing broader societal or citywide policy issues, longer-term policy strategies for furthering NYCHA's mission to provide quality housing for New Yorkers, and various policy work related to the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust.
Projects or assignments will consist of short-, medium-, and long-term assignments related to researching, analyzing and evaluating policy needs and options for the Authority. Work product will vary depending on the specific assignment, but will generally consist of written materials, data analyses, or memos prepared for the Vice President of Policy and/or other members of the policy team. The Policy Intern will interact closely with other members of the policy team within the CEO's office, and may be asked to join meetings with other NYCHA departments involved in projects that the intern has been assigned to work on.
The broad scope of the Office of the CEO’s functions requires that candidates for the Policy Intern position combine a strategic mindset with the ability to quickly develop subject matter expertise. Candidates should have a strong process and analytical toolkit, excellent data fluency, and strong written communication skills. Ideal candidates will also bring some familiarity with NYC government, housing policy, housing operations, stakeholder engagement, capital programs / projects, and/or public sector procurement.

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
