The Commission on Gender Equity (CGE) leads the City’s efforts to make sure every girl, woman and gender non- binary individual throughout the five boroughs is treated equally and feels safe. We are putting the full force of municipal government which is the city’s largest employer to work on behalf of this cause. CGE works collaboratively with City agencies in three focus areas: economic mobility and opportunity, health and reproductive justice, and safety.

The Commission on Gender Equity (CGE) is recruiting one (1) Community Coordinator to function as a Policy and Programs Analyst for Safety.

The Policy and Programs Analyst for Safety reports to the Deputy Executive Director for Policy and Programs and is responsible for the development and implementation of CGE’s programs, initiatives, publications, and legislative agenda related to CGE’s Safety focus area.

The Policy and Programs Analyst for Safety will:

- Conduct policy and advocacy research on Safety issues that impact the economic, physical, social,
and civic well-being of girls, women, and transgender and gender non-binary New Yorkers.

- Monitor legislation and develop a legislative agenda for CGE’s Safety focus areas to inform city,
state, and federal advocacy and draft public testimony for City Council hearings, as necessary.

- Develop Safety reports, fact sheets, and other communications materials, as identified.

- Develop and implement public education programs such as public hearings and events, including
managing logistics and conducting community and partner outreach in collaboration with CGE’s
Communications and Public Engagement team.

- Convene and manage the CGE Commissioners’ Safety Workgroup quarterly.

- In collaboration with the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, lead the
Street Harassment Prevention Advisory Board, including facilitating meetings, developing written
materials and resources, and supporting qualitative and quantitative research.

- Lead CGE’s participation in campaigns such as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based
Violence Campaign and Denim Day, including collaborating with internal and external partners,
developing written materials, and organizing relevant programming.

- Support the development of CGE’s updated Strategic Plan and identify key areas in the Safety
space for CGE’s growth and leadership.

- Provide support to policy and programmatic work across CGE’s other focus areas – Economic
Mobility and Opportunity and Health and Reproductive Justice, as necessary.

- Assist in the supervision and management of interns.


Work Hours/Shift:
Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

- Proven experience working on issues that promote racial, ethnic, economic and gender equity and diversity. - Evidence of a strong background in gender studies, with a targeted focus on examining strategies to eliminate gender- and race-based violence. - Demonstrated experience in project management, conducting and synthesizing research, and drafting materials for diverse stakeholder audiences. - Experience managing diverse and cross-sector stakeholders is desired. - Ability to think creatively, embrace new approaches and pioneer innovative solutions to intricate problems, while working collaboratively with a diverse constituency. - Experience in local, state, or federal government, and/or significant experience in the non-profit, education or social services sector. - Ability to synthesize and distill complex material into actionable recommendations while meeting deadlines, sometimes with a quick turnaround. - Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail. - Energetic and resourceful, organized and results-oriented, a self-starter and team player.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
