Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Strategic Initiatives Bureau (SIB) is the NYPD's central body for research, analysis, and policy development. SIB's mission is to design and drive long term, enterprise-wide transformation by evaluating policies, programs, and resources, while striving toward maximum organizational efficiency and effectiveness. It serves as a primary advisor to the police commissioner regarding the department's short- and long-term strategic goals. SIB examines new technologies and explores innovative solutions to help the Department to fulfill its primary mission of keeping New York City safe.

The Bureau is seeking a Policy Analyst (confirm title). Under executive leadership, the Policy Analyst will work with various Project Teams within the Strategic Initiatives Bureau, who are responsible for managing multiple project teams and the coordination and management of a portfolio of diverse projects that impact the Department. The Policy Analyst will also be responsible for the coordination and completion of diverse projects that impact the community.

The Policy Analyst (Community Coordinator) will be responsible for:
- Work directly on projects that affect the NYPD and the community to develop project plans, workshops, events and carry out activities, track progress and achieve deliverables.
- Coordinate work with other members of the project team.
- Create and use spreadsheets or other appropriate tools to manage tasks and keep up-to-date.
- Ability to multi-task and work on multiple and diverse projects while supporting project teams in achieving their goals.
- Generate various project-related documents including, schedules, project plans, presentations, meeting agendas, minutes and status reports.
- Prepare and deliver informative, well-organized presentations.
- Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
- Understand how and when to communicate difficult/sensitive information appropriately.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

- Ability to think creatively, embrace new approaches and pioneer innovative solutions to intricate problems. - Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to write reports, correspondence, literature reviews and memorandums. - Experience working on multiple tasks and assignments while maintaining attention to detail, and the ability to be flexible with changing demands. - Familiarity with Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
