Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED AN HOURLY RATE OF $19.50.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.

The New York City (NYC) Administration for Children’s Services’ (ACS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for providing high quality, reliable, and sustainable technology services, and support to meet the needs of the families and children we serve through ACS, its vendor partners and other City agencies. The Digital Product Strategy and Solutions (DPSS) unit advances OIT’s mission by translating vetted ideas into scalable, user-centered digital products. With a focus on product strategy, delivery discipline, and outcomes, the unit ensures that technology solutions improve services for children, families, and frontline staff across the agency.

OIT is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Platform Developer Undergraduate Intern to join our Digital Product Strategy and Solutions Unit.

As a Platform Developer Undergraduate Intern, you will gain practical experience in application development, system design, cloud-based technologies, data integration, and DevOps practices. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to collaborate with the OIT's Business Solutions Unit, which is responsible for building, enhancing, and maintaining the 76 in-house applications essential to ACS operations. Additionally, as a member of the 2026, ACS Summer Internship Program cohort, you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops, lunch and learns, speaker events, NYC government tours, and networking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

Application Development and Design:

- Contribute to building cloud-based applications using Microsoft Power Apps, Microsoft Power Automate, Microsoft Power Portal, Microsoft Dynamics, and Salesforce, adhering to various Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies such as Hybrid Agile.

Data Integration:

- Develop and implement data integrations and data feeds from Oracle and Structured Query Language (SQL) Server databases using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes and APIs.

DevOps:

- Use version control tools like Git to manage source code, and support the development, validation, and deployment of code through DevOps pipelines.

Learning Outcomes:

- Develop a strong understanding of IT application development processes and broader IT operations within a government environment.

- Strengthen your abilities to coordinate and execute organizational tasks in a professional setting.

Minimum Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.


Preferred Skills

- Understanding of low-code/no-code development platforms such as Microsoft Power platform or Salesforce. - Basic understanding of database queries. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
