Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, perform very responsible work in the supervision, planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and/or
evaluation of community development programs.
- Oversee the Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) operations of a borough, beach or a specialized command.
- Set priorities, establish assignments and deploy officers.
- Plan, implement, coordinate and monitor special community events.
- Make recommendations on policies and procedures.
- Provide authoritative interpretation of complex problems.
- Prepare monthly statistical reports. Review all paperwork to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Evaluate sergeants and oversee the evaluation of all officers. Conduct periodic uniform, field and vehicle inspections.
- Attend borough meetings and work closely with Borough Commissioner, Chief of Operations and Chief of Recreation.
- Maintain good working relationships with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and other city agencies.
- Meet with local politicians and community groups.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Qualify for Special Patrolman and Peace Officer status. (To qualify for Special Patrolman status, individuals must be of good moral character, have U.S. citizenship, be at least 21 years of age, and have no record of conviction for any felony or for any serious offense against public safety as defined in New York State Penal Law). 2. Prior supervisory experience. 3. Understanding of Parks and Urban Park Service policies. 4. Ability to multi-task and generate internal and public reports. 5. Experience in event planning and crowd control. 6. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency is required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
