The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

The core values of the OCME are to put the mission of the agency first, to be truly dedicated and to have integrity in every aspect of our professional life Under the direction of the Executive Director of Human Resources, the selected candidate will provide time leave and payroll support to the Human Resources Unit at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The unit's core functions include recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, employee discipline, labor relations, performance management, payroll, timekeeping, leaves, and professional development.
- Process and approve pay details to release funds to employees.
- Analyze Pending Pay Details Awaiting Approval report.
- Process employment verifications, address/name changes, and updates.
- Answer employee questions regarding direct deposit, savings plans, and benefits.
- Perform periodic payroll audits to ensure proper compensation.
- Enter CityTime entries including OT approvals and manual entries.
- Research and respond to employee payroll and leave inquiries.
- Process sick leave, FMLA requests, jury duty actions, and absence control reports.
- Approve weekly timesheets and adjust as needed.
- Assist in monitoring overtime cap for employees.
- Generate confidential reports through HR systems.
- Maintain employee personnel folders and confidential information.
- Liaise with agency partners, managers, and supervisors.
- Prepare fiscal reports and track requests.
- Audit overpayment reports and certify payroll records.
- Process and audit holiday and overtime pay.
- Handle collective bargaining increases and retroactive pay.
- Respond to inquiries from employees via phone and email.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
1. Knowledge of Citywide pay and leave regulations. 2. Timekeeping experience.
