Job Description

The Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) is dedicated to strengthening New York City’s vibrant cultural life by providing funding and support to New York City’s cultural community, including the 34 institutions that comprise the Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) and more than 1,000 non-profit cultural organizations that receive annual support. This constituency represents a diverse array of organizations - including performing arts groups, museums, theaters, zoos, botanical gardens, visual arts and film centers, community-based organizations, and arts education programs – that are central to the life of communities in every corner of New York City. DCLA also manages a significant portfolio of cultural capital projects; provides free donated materials and supplies for arts programs and arts educators through its Materials for the Arts program; provides capacity building and technical assistance support to cultural groups; and commissions works of permanent public art through the City’s Public Art Program.

We are seeking a summer graduate intern to support the Programs Unit’s Assistant Commissioner, Directors and program officers who are responsible for coordinating the review of the Fiscal Year 2026 CDF proposals. The intern will report to the Director of Operations and Director of Program Administration of the Programs Unit and work with the Programs Unit staff members that coordinate and lead each CDF review panel.

The Programs unit expects to conduct panels Tuesdays and Fridays starting June 24, 2025, through September 30, 2025. The intern will be present approximately 9:30AM – 4:30PM, with an additional day during the week for post-panel reporting. Expected commitment is 3 days a week, 7 hours a day. All work will be conducted in person from our office in lower Manhattan.

Specific duties include:

- Documentation of panel proceedings: coordinating materials to document the conversation among panelists that supports their scoring recommendation.
- Document creation: generating documents for each panel, by taking detailed notes and preparing documents at the close of each session for reporting.
- Additional document review: supporting the Programs Unit staff in the creation of documentation to present panel outcomes to the Commissioner.
- Facilitate all technical logistics of the virtual panel session: including managing Zoom logistics, sharing screen, timekeeping, and transitioning the group to and from breaks.

Special Skills/Area of Study:

- Familiarity with the arts and culture field in New York City.
- Ability to exercise discretion in documenting panel proceedings.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, particularly Microsoft Excel, is preferred.
- Ability to learn the basics of DCLA’s database prior to the beginning of the panel sessions, if it is determined that such notes will be entered into the database.
