Under supervision, does inside and outside painting of a general nature, including all coats, aboard the vessels and in the facilities of the Staten Island Ferry; performs related work.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL TASKS:
Works on and from ladders, platforms and scaffolds as jobs may require; erects ladders; may rig lines and scaffolds; prepares, fills and primes surfaces for painting; mixes paint components and matches color; applies paint with a brush, roller or spray gun to surface; applies plaster to surfaces; applies taping as needed; takes proper care of all materials, tools and equipment; and keeps work records as required, and orders necessary equipment.


TWIC REQUIREMENT: Once selected for employment at the Staten Island Ferry, federal regulations require that the applicant must either undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC. Minimum Qualifications

1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years; or
2. At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years and sufficient full-time satisfactory apprentice painter experience to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice painter experience.
