Salary range: $90,000-$105,000
As part of the 2022 state legislation that established the New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust, a housing facility can convert to the Trust only after an affirmative resident vote. The Organizing Lead will play a key role in building out long-term capacity to conduct votes by implementing on the ground votes and leveraging this experience to advise on longer term strategy.
The ideal candidate should be familiar with civic engagement and GOTV efforts. Candidate must have the ability to think on their feet and adapt to various situations – whether it be adjusting engagement strategies or resolving operational issues.
The primary responsibilities of the Organizing Lead will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Create and implement individualized engagement and voting plans for new voting sites.
- Plan and coordinate logistics for large community events that encourage tenants to participate in the voting process.
- Produce and design educational materials that clearly and accurately describe the voting options and other relevant information.
- Implement effective communication plan that motivates tenants to get involved in voter engagement and ultimately vote.
- Conduct research on innovative engagement methods and funding opportunities to expand the Voter Engagement Team.
- Represent the Voter Engagement Team and present voter engagement materials at tenant and community meetings.
- Develop and maintain relationships with tenant leaders, key NYCHA leadership, and external stakeholders such as elected officials and advocates.
- Develop and track specific metrics to ensure engagement plans accomplish the target outreach goals.
- As needed and appropriate, oversee temporary engagement staff and volunteers.
- Support the Deputy Director for Voting and NYCHA leadership with creating the voting team’s long-term implementation strategy, including the consistent launch of new development votes.

- Advanced organizational and time management skills.
- Previous campaign and community engagement experience that involves motivating voters and/or other stakeholders around a policy issue is a plus.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment while being responsible for multiple tasks at one time.
- Impeccable oral communications skills and the ability to engage a diversity of stakeholder.
- Willingness to travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
- Willingness to attend and present at evening meetings
- Spanish is a plus.
