Job Description

This vacancy has now expired.

- Under direct supervision is responsible for the lubrication of power plant, pumping and/or construction equipment; performs related work.
- Lubricates and clean pumps, engines, blowers, compressors, motors, gears, ejectors and other operating equipment.
- Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment.
- Read meters, gauges, and other operating equipment.
- Keeps logs and maintains records.
- Operates lubricant filtering and purifying equipment; maintains lubricant inventory.
- May operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT
For appointment to certain positions, possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license. Employees must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License during their employment.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience in the lubrication, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment; or
2. One and one-half years of experience as described in “1" above plus graduation from an approved trade, technical, or vocational high school or completion of an approved internship program; or
3. One year of experience as described in “1" above plus an associate degree from an accredited school in mechanical technology.


Preferred Skills

Preference will be given to applicants who have taken and passed the recent Oiler exam (Exam No. 3101). Please indicate on your cover letter and resume if you have taken and passed the recent Oiler exam (Exam No. 3101). 1. A valid Refrigerating System Operating Engineer Certificate (Q-99 or Q-01), issued by the New York City Fire Department. 2. A valid Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certificate (EPA 608 Certificate) issued by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. 3. New York State 7G Pesticide Applicator or Technician’s certificate issued by NYSDEC. 4. Strong organizational, communication, administrative, writing and presentation skills. 5. Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills. Ability to look at the big picture and search for insightful and creative solutions. 6. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
