Job Description

This position must be ready to assume a variety of tasks in our Central Services Unit.
Primary among these tasks will be sorting, processing and delivering mail. We sort thousands of pieces of mail and litigation papers on a weekly basis according to whom it is addressed or by subject matter.
In addition, the candidate will perform second level sort, which includes opening, stapling, clocking and sorting the US Mail, mail received via overnight and messenger deliveries.
The daily routine will vary depending on the amount of mail that arrives each day.
Candidates will be trained on other clerical functions including postage, copying legal documents, data entry and inquiry.
Candidate will be required to lift buckets of mail to and from their work area and, retrieve and/or deliver mail to the U.S. Post Office.
Candidate will perform other clerical duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to multi-task with flexibility and efficiency while achieving required productivity levels. Expertise in applicable data entry and Microsoft Office applications is required.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
