The Division of Traffic Operations seeks to hire an Administrative Project Manager to join the Traffic Management Center unit. The unit is a 24/7 operation including holidays and weekends. The selected candidate will serve as the night shift supervisor, leading the TMC operations and supervising staff performing highly technical engineering work including monitoring and troubleshooting problems related to the maintenance of 13,600 traffic signals, working with maintenance contractors via radio communication to troubleshoot traffic signal failures to restore proper operations that are critical to ensure proper flow of traffic and the safety of the public. Utilizing the agency video surveillance system and other vehicle detection technology tools to manage traffic incidents citywide including monitoring work zones, and severe weather conditions that may impede traffic flow, and coordinating the responses to traffic incidents with first responders and other city and state agencies in the metropolitan region. Coordinate all activities with other shift supervisors and exchange information among them to ensure the continuities of information between shifts. Responsible for all primary notifications in the event of an emergency and serves as the point of contact for the duty officer. Alert system operators to new directives, procedures, special requests, and projects, train new employees, and ensures all TMC SOPs are properly followed. The selected individual may work different shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays and will report directly to the TMC Operations Manager.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, business administration, or public administration, and five years of full-time satisfactory experience in the planning, administering or expediting of engineering design, and/or construction, or coordinating a very large engineering project, two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or
2. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of experience as described in "1" above; two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. An accredited Master's degree in one of the disciplines described in "1" above, a law degree, or a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect or Landscape Architect may be substituted for one year of the required experience. However, all candidates must have the two years of the administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.
- Strong computer skills in the use of software programs including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Access. - Preferred Knowledge of TransSuiteTCS (Traffic Control System management software) - Familiar with Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Control management software - Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and traffic management systems technology and applications. - Ability to maintain records and prepare reports related to the work. - Ability to communicate effectively with others
