The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865, FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Department's core values.

The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Network Engineer in the Bureau of Technology Development and Systems. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Network Services, the successful candidate will be comfortable working in a dynamic setting, handling multiple locations, and collaborating with various teams.

Key Responsibilities:

-Large-Scale Network Management: Experience managing networks across several hundred locations, ensuring seamless operations and connectivity.
-Routing and Switching: Expertise with Cisco and/or Arista technologies, including thorough knowledge of Cisco 9k, 7k IOS NX-OS.
-SD-WAN: Proficiency in Software Defined WAN (SD-WAN) using VeloCloud/FortiGate
-Cisco Technologies: Hands-on experience with Cisco ACI, Spine and Leaf architecture, VRF, Cisco DNAC, and Cisco wireless technology, including Meraki AP.
-Firewalls: Competence in configuring, installing, and maintaining Palo Alto and Fortinet firewalls.
-Advanced Networking: In-depth knowledge of VXLAN, MPLS, VPN, and Cisco ISE.
-Routing Protocols: Strong understanding of routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and IS-IS.
-Load Balancing: Experience with F5 and AVI load balancers, including configuration of VIP, IRULE, and LTM troubleshooting.
-IP Addressing: Proficiency in IP address schemes, including subnetting, IPv4/IPv6.
-Cloud Infrastructure: Familiarity with Azure ExpressRoute and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
-Proxy Servers: Knowledge of industry-standard proxy servers like McAfee and Bluecoat.
-Network Tools: Proficiency with tools such as Netscout, ExtraHop, and RSA.
-Arista Technologies: Understanding of Arista CVP, ACT, and AVD.
-Automation: While not required, knowledge of automation technologies is a plus.


Minimum Qualifications

Professional/vendor certification(s) in local area network administration that is required for the position to be filled. In addition, all candidates must have the following:

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) experience in local area network and/or wide area network planning, design, configuration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management; or

2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in "1" or

3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 undergraduate semester credits from an accredited college is equivalent to 6 months of experience. A master’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college may be substitute for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory (not classroom based) full-time information technology experience as described in "1" above.

Note: In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements: Incumbents may be required to update existing and/or obtain additional professional industry-standard certification(s) for current and future technical environments(s) in which they may be assigned to work, as determined by the employing agency.


Preferred Skills

-Experience: Minimum of five years working in large-scale network environments. -Certifications: Cisco and other relevant network certifications are required. -Skills: Hands-on expertise, strong documentation abilities, and the ability to work comfortably in large, multi-team environments.
