Job Description
DHS is one of the largest organization of its kind committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City. Collaborating with other public agencies and not-for-profit partners, DHS works to prevent homelessness before it occurs, reduce street homelessness and assist New Yorkers to transition from shelter into appropriate permanent housing.
With a fleet of 184 vehicles, Fleet Administration ensures the prompt and safe transport of both Family and Adult Services clientele on two different shifts and locations. They are also equipped to transport disabled clients (wheelchair bound). When needed, warming and cooling buses and vans for our street homeless population are offered.
The Department of Homeless Services is recruiting for two (2) Motor Vehicle Supervisors who will:
-Supervise a team of Motor Vehicle Operators, manage their time and leave, and distribute assignments accordingly.
-Dispatch personnel, motor vehicles and equipment to fulfill transportations requests and assignments.
-Schedule subordinate personnel to perform servicing, minor repairing, and storage of automotive vehicles.
-Inspect garage activities and facilities to ensure compliance with established standards and practices.
-Investigating complaints on automotive servicing and operations.
-Receive reports on the condition of motor vehicles and equipment repaired or needing repairs.
-Direct the performance of minor repairs and refer major repairs to appropriate sections.
-Prepare and enforce routines of periodic oiling, lubrication, and washing of vehicles, their tire servicing, and the dispensing of gasoline as authorized for vehicular uses.
-Initiate requisitions for needed supplies and automotive servicing equipment.
-Must have a CDL class B license with Passenger endorsement.
1. One year of permanent service in the title of Motor Vehicle Operator; or
2. One year of full-time satisfactory experience as a motor vehicle dispatcher or manager of an automotive service garage.
License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements described above for Assignment Level I, at least:
a) one year in the title of Motor Vehicle Supervisor; or
b) one additional year of the full-time experience described in “2” above in a large automotive service garage.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
