The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Mobility Support Engineer in the Bureau of Technology Development and Systems (BTDS), reporting directly to the Mobility Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily support, installation, and monitoring of all mobile devices including Apple iPhones/iPads, Android smartphones/tablets and all other mobile devices and applications. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

- This position will interface with all levels of FDNY Personnel and will work closely with the Technical Support Center, Asset Management, and other technical teams.
- Duties include Help Desk Management System incident logging provisioning, inspection, and correction.
- Configuration management in the Mobile Devices Management system (MDM), documentation and end user support and training.
- Unbox, test and provision City-owned Android and iOS-based phones and/or tablets for use by Executive Staff, Uniformed Fire and EMS, and civilian Personnel.
- Experience with Mobile Device Management and be capable of provisioning devices to ensure adherence to Agency standards for access control, security, application deployment, etc. under the guidance of Senior Mobility Experts, and should have experience transferring user data with a Celebrate (or similar) transfer appliance.
- Administrative functions include liaising with the Agency’s mobility partners (OTI Enterprise Mobile Technologies Unit, and all Cellular Providers) to assure optimal customer experience through partnership and collaboration through to satisfactory resolution.

The Mobility Support functions have direct impact on public safety in terms of supporting public safety applications and aiding first responders and fire inspectors for safety inspections. Various mobile devices are used by Fire, EMS and Inspectors to do their daily work and maintenance and support for these mobile devices and its software is critical.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in data telecommunications/ networking or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, and/or administrative duties in a data telecommunications or closely-related electronics planning, electronics management, and/or electronics service environment; or

2. An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in data telecommunications/ networking or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area and two years of experience as described in "1" above; or

3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three years of experience as described in "1" above; or

4. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. A college education may be substituted for experience on the basis of six months of experience as described in "1" above for each 30 semester credits of undergraduate college education including or supplemented by 6 semester credits in data telecommunications/networking or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area for a maximum of two years. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of the experience as described in "1" above.

Special Note - Additional Requirements for Assignment Level IV

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, at least two additional years of full-time experience as follows: 1) As a Telecommunications Associate (Data)-Assignment Levels I, II, and III working for the City of New York; or
2) Performing analytical, planning, operational, technical, and/or administrative duties in a data telecommunications, electronics planning, electronics management, and/or electronics service environment, one year of which must have been specialized work in a consultative or supervisory capacity.


Preferred Skills

- Advanced configuration knowledge of IOS and Android portable devices (i.e., smartphones, tablets etc.). - Use of Workspace ONE MDM (Mobile Device Management) - Experience with Apple and Google app stores, iTunes. - Use of a telephone transfer appliance (Celebrate or other) - Wi-Fi, Mi-Fi, mobile carrier networking technology and troubleshooting. - Working knowledge of commercial carrier cellular voice and data plans. - Detail-oriented and able to maintain timely, accurate records.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
