The New York City Department Transportation (NYC DOT) is a global leader in the transportation sector and oversees robust communications and marketing efforts to promote agency initiatives. This includes groundbreaking paid advertising campaigns on street safety, including the Open Streets Initiative, NYC’s Streets Plan, the Green Wave Bike Safety Plan, Better Buses Action Plan, and Vision Zero. NYC DOT is seeking a Marketing Communications Manager to oversee agency marketing campaigns from ideation to execution. The Marketing Communications Manager will be responsible for the creation and execution of both in-house and contracted advertising services. NYC DOT hires multiple advertising and marketing agencies, videographers, and photographers to facilitate select public awareness campaigns. These campaigns are produced and distributed in all media, including social media. They highlight DOT’s important work to reduce injuries and fatalities on the city’s streets and describe NYC DOT’s work to keep infrastructure in a state of good repair. The Marketing Communications Manager will have wide latitude for independent judgment and action to help set and achieve agency marketing goals and will develop marketing plans for a variety of projects and initiatives. The Marketing Communications Manager will work closely with agency executives and a variety of internal and external stakeholders to fully understand the goals and challenges of initiatives and craft appropriate marketing strategies. The successful candidate will be not only be creative and strategic, but also proficient in managing consultant assignments – ensuring quality, timeliness, and value. The Marketing Communications Manager will also assist in procurement, contract management, and budgeting activities for advertising services. The Marketing Communications Manager will report to the Executive Director of Strategic Communications and will support internal and external communications efforts and perform other related duties.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Excellent communications skills strongly desired Ability to establish strong working relationships to support the successful delivery of agency communications strongly desired Experience identifying target audiences and implementing marketing plans that engage, educate, and motivate strongly preferred Experience with creative development and media planning preferred, either on the client or agency side Experience with project management, integrated communications planning, and campaign performance reporting preferred Experience designing and implementing market research programs preferred Experience in contract and budgeting management Demonstrated experience with the use of blogs, podcasts, social media, and other new media tools for marketing engagement preferred Demonstrated experience with Photoshop, Lightroom, Final Cut Pro, and other design and video software helpful.
