Position Summary:
The Accounts Receivable Manager is a highly motivated accounting leader who oversees the daily operations of Accounts Receivable work unit to ensure operation of employer contributions, daily cash receipt management, deposits and receivables. The Accounts Receivable manager also trains, coaches and inspires collaboration and shared learning within the team.
- Directs and manages the daily activities of account receivable team to ensure operation of employer contributions, daily cash receipt management, deposits and receivables
- Coordinates monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities; supports budget and forecasting activities
- Develops processes, procedures, and plans to ensure account receivables tasks are up to date and in compliance; set ups and monitors work unit targets and pro-actively make recommendations for improvements to reach month, quarterly and annual work unit goals
- Ensures team members understand business unit and overall department goals, SLAs/OLAs, policy and procedures
- Ensures the quality of services provided to members either directly or indirectly meets or exceeds expectations
- Prioritizes, monitors and evaluates high volume work load; establishes performance standards and evaluates them against staff performance to ensure KPI and OLA are met in a timely manner
- Assists in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the work unit performance
- Trains, coaches and inspires collaboration and shared learning within the team; manages issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, and performance
- Conducts annual performance appraisal reviews
- Oversees the GL and bank reconciliation with the Comptroller Office resolving any of the most difficult discrepancies; provides recommendations for system, process, policy and procedure improvements; ensures reports, GL and bank reconciliations meet quality control and audit requirements
- Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions; monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient processes and procedures and use of resources to maintain a high level of accuracy
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by 12 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, and/or actuarial science and four years of satisfactory full-time experience implementing the provisions of a retirement plan involving the use of mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising professionals implementing the provisions of a retirement plan involving the use of mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations; or
2. An associate degree or 60 credits from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 12 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and six years of satisfactory full-time experience as indicated in “1”; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have 60 credits from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 12 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and the 18 months of experience in a supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive capacity as described in “1” above.
- 4 years of full-time professional accounting or auditing experience - 2 years of management experience - CPA preferred Knowledge: - Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) accounting and financial reporting standards - Knowledge of GASB’s recent changes for a public pension plan’s actuarial cost, accrued liability, and value of assets - Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) - Knowledge of policies and practices associated with pension and benefits administration - Knowledge of maintaining a Receivable Ledger and various Bank Reconciliations - Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and operations - Knowledge of various accounting and enterprise-wide computer systems - Knowledge of the accounting and other financial data used in support of the accounting transaction - Knowledge of G/L applications and reconciliation - Knowledge of business and cash receipt accounting - Knowledge of how to verify and post details of business transactions, reconciliation Skills: - MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Competencies: - Organizational Awareness - Strategic Thinking - Decisiveness - Flexibility
