Hours/Shift: Forty-hour work week; schedule for forty hours over seven days; early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends or holidays included.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

Under supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the individual will perform various types of duties including, but not limited to:
- Performs routine and/or preventative maintenance at OCME facilities.
- Maintains, adjusts and/or makes minor repairs to building, furniture or other equipment.
- Makes minor repairs to building electrical, plumbing, and heating systems.
- Makes minor repairs to masonry, woodwork, flooring and/or walls.
- Responds to facility emergencies as required.
- Replaces broken windows and/or doors.
- Other duties as assigned.
1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a mechanic, journeyperson or helper in the electrical trades, the mechanical trades, or the construction or maintenance of buildings; or
2. At least two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above plus sufficient full-time training or education in the electrical, mechanical or construction trades in a trade school, technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each year of full-time acceptable training or education.
Successful candidate must possess good oral communication and interpersonal skills.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
