The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of New York City’s children and families by providing child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care services. In child welfare, ACS contracts with private nonprofit organizations to support and stabilize families at risk of a crisis through preventive services and provides foster care services for children not able to safely remain at home. Each year, the agency’s Division of Child Protection responds to more than 50,000 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect. In juvenile justice, ACS manages and funds services including detention and placement, intensive community-based alternatives for youth, and support services for families. ACS is also a key part of NYCs early childhood and education continuum, providing childcare assistance to thousands of child welfare involved and low-income children so they can access safe, affordable, quality care.

The Division of Administration, Office of Real Estate, Design + Construction, Facilities Management is seeking a Detention Facilities to oversee and manage the day-to-day maintenance and operational activities within Detention Facilities. The duties for the maintenance worker position will be as follows but not limited to:

- Make onsite and immediate repairs to general infrastructure and public space to remedy unsafe conditions due to system failures, vandalism, and other unforeseen structural mishaps. - Maintain secure inventory and accountability of work tools and materials to prevent inadvertent access by residential population and unauthorized personnel.
- Maintains, adjusts and makes minor repairs of building hardware, furniture, shelving and equipment.
- Conduct daily inspections of facility operations and equipment to affect both preventive and predictive maintenance, repairs, and orderly equipment replacement.
- Visually inspects public buildings, structures and equipment to assess and check for defects, malfunctions and hazardous conditions.
- Visually checks for and r4ecords the observable conditions of the premises.
- Replace broken window and door glass.
- Repairs windows and sash.
- Makes minor repairs to masonry, woodwork, flooring and walls.
- Makes minor repairs to building electrical, plumbing and heating systems.
- Monitor contractor’s work and verify completion of their work.
- Keep service records and files reports.
- Operates a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.
- Assists in orderly and secure setup of special events in a secure environment and
assists in relocating building equipment’s as directed.


Minimum Qualifications

1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a mechanic, journeyperson or helper in the electrical trades, the mechanical trades, or the construction or maintenance of buildings; or

2. At least two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above plus sufficient full-time training or education in the electrical, mechanical or construction trades in a trade school, technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each year of full-time acceptable training or education.


Preferred Skills

- Good organizational and communication skills. - Ability to work independently and able to handle confidential matters. - Have proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio Access, Outlook and Excel.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
