Job Description

Reporting directly to the Director, responsibilities of the Legislative Coordinator include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Confirm resolution of tenant inquiries with the appropriate NYCHA departments and with the elected officials.
- Draft correspondence letters to various elected officials’ offices.
- Compile briefs, PowerPoint presentations, and reports on behalf of department leadership.
- Respond to time-sensitive requests from elected official and executive staff.
- Execute all tasks necessary to carry out the department’s goals and mission successfully.
- Organize events and coordinate meetings.
- Manage key relationships with Community Boards, Elected Officials, Tenant Associations and community-based organizations to increase our community relations and to communicate various NYCHA updates, press releases, etc.
- Represent NYCHA at community meetings during business and non-business hours.
- Advocate for capital funding from various elected officials.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Excellent writing and communication skills. 2. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple assignments. 3. Ability to work under deadlines.
