The New York City Comptroller, an independently elected official, is the Chief Financial Officer of the City of New York. The mission of the office is to promote the financial integrity and operational effectiveness of New York City government, in order to secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers and build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. We utilize the tools and responsibilities that the City Charter assigns us to ensure that City government is budgeting wisely, investing strategically, living up to its promises and obligations, and keeping a sharp eye on the long-term challenges to come.
The Office of the New York City Comptroller, through its Bureau of Labor Law, sets and enforces prevailing wages and benefits for workers employed on New York City public projects and in certain properties that receive tax exemptions. The Comptroller’s Office also engages in outreach and educational work to inform the community of their rights under the law. Under Comptroller Brad Lander, the Office seeks to expand its impact on the rights of workers by using creative tools, including education, outreach, policy initiatives, and data analysis, to leverage the city’s resources and information on behalf of workers.
Responsibilities of the Legal Intern include, but are not limited to:
- Performing legal research and writing on labor law issues
- Assisting with case work and labor investigations under supervision of an attorney
- Participating in community and outreach events such as know-your-rights presentations to workers
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must be current matriculated students at an accredited United States law school.
IMPORTANT:
- Our office is located at the David Dinkins Municipal Building, 1 Centre St. in Manhattan/New York.
- All interns will work in-person in the office, Monday – Thursday, 28 hours per week.
- The employment period will be from June 3 – August 1, 2024.
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
- Commitment to workers' rights and social justice and excellent writing skills - Proficiency in a language other than English is a plus
