Job Description
The New York City Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) works every day to implement the city’s Human Rights Law through enforcement, education, and outreach. The Commission seeks to address historic and contemporary inequities to cultivate a city where everyone can live, work, and thrive free from discrimination.
Through training, education, and policy initiatives, the Commission aims to root out discrimination. The Commission proactively identifies patterns of discrimination through testing employers, housing providers, and providers of public accommodation. The Commission also uses investigations, litigation, and other enforcement tools to address allegations of discrimination.
The Commission is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Administrative Assistant to join our team in the Law Enforcement Bureau. Reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, the Clerical Associate will be responsible for:
Job Duties
- Provide day-to-day administrative support to LEB, including reception tasks, mail handling, correspondence, and managing complaints.
- Schedules external appointments, prepare meeting rooms, and maintain clear and concise meeting minutes.
- Maintains and updates case management system and other case files.
- Monitors office equipment, including checking all shared equipment is in working order and notifying supervisors when assistance is necessary, as well as order necessary office supplies for LEB.
- Collect, assemble, and review data to support investigations and litigation.
- Perform data entry, make and answer calls, generate letters, emails, and otherwise facilitate communication with members of the public, employees of other city agencies, court clerks and other individuals.
- Process and assign Attorney-filed complaints.
- Manage information on several electronic information storage systems in order to facilitate agency operations.

Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
- Proven experience in an administrative role or as a paralegal. - Excellent writing and communications skills. - Must be well-organized, assertive, and able to work independently and collaboratively. - Ability to adapt to rapidly changing requirements. - High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite ( Word, Excel, Dynamics) - Ability to effectively prioritize, execute and follow-up in a timely manner, anticipating problems and roadblocks. - Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters. - Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills - Familiarity with the NYCHRL. - Fluency in a language other than English, preferably one common in New York City. - Strong relationships with organizations and groups serving diverse communities in the City and experience working with some of the following people and communities: immigrants people of color people with limited English proficiency people living with HIV/AIDS lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender people people with disabilities people with accommodations issues related to pregnancy, disability or religion and people with criminal or arrest histories.
