Job Description:
The successful candidate will report to the Enterprise Network Services (ENS) Wi-Fi group. This group is responsible for deploying approximately 1,000 access points across all mayoral agencies in the City of New York.
The Lead Wi-Fi Network Architect is responsible for leading the design, implementation and maintenance of the Wi-Fi infrastructure deployed to multiple mayoral agencies, with a specific focus on Meraki Wi-Fi solution. The chosen candidate will work with the agency stakeholders to understand their requirements, work with the vendor for an appropriate solution, deploy and also act as tier 3 troubleshooting escalation engineer to quickly resolve issues.
Responsibilities will include:
- Lead the solution, design, implementation, and troubleshooting of OTI 's Wi-Fi network with a special focus on Meraki Wi-Fi products;
- Work with stakeholders to gather requirements, coordinate site surveys with other teams/vendors, analyzing coverage and capacity needs, and selecting appropriate Meraki hardware;
- Lead configuration of Meraki Wi-Fi solutions, including deploying and optimizing network components, configuring wireless settings, and integrating the Wi-Fi infrastructure with existing networks;
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with the Meraki Wi-Fi network;
- Ensure various agency deployments are in adherence to OTI policies and take corrective actions to ensure the same;
- Stay up-to-date on the latest Meraki Wi-Fi products and technologies;
- Work with other departments to ensure the Meraki Wi-Fi network meets the needs of the organization;
- Run projects independently and act as a Subject Matter Expert during solutioning and troubleshooting meetings/calls;
- Work with vendors' technical teams for any technology related matters;
- Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area, and four years of satisfactory fulltime experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, or administrative duties in a voice and/or data telecommunications or closely related electronics planning, management, and/or service organization, one year of which must have been in a highly specialized capacity and 18 months must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity or in the supervision of staff performing work in the voice and/or data telecommunications field; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent, scientific, technical, electronic or related area and five years of experience as described in "1" above; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of the specialized experience as described in "1" above and must possess the 18 months of executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.
The successful candidate should possess the following: - 7 years+ experience in deploying Meraki W-Fi solutions in big government agencies, corporations involving hundreds of access points - 5 years+ experience in managing large deployment projects that involve multiple locations and managing multiple projects simultaneously - 5 years+ experience in implementing wireless security including authentication protocols (e.g., WPA2, WPA3), encryption standards, firewall rules, VLAN segmentation, and network access control (NAC) - Knowledge of Meraki security features, such as integrated IPS/IDS, content filtering, and rogue AP detection - To enable automation, at least 5 years of experience in scripting and having worked on tools such as Ansible, Python, Postman and data formats such as JSON and XML - 7 years+ experience in networking technologies, routing protocols, cloud services and DMZ networks
