Job Description

THE OPEN-COMPETATIVE LIST, EXAM # 0159.
The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day.
In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks experienced and enthusiastic Labor Relations Associate.
Job Responsibilities:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Labor Relations and Discipline:
- Coordinate and participate in labor management meetings and grievance hearings.
- Liaise with unions and union representatives and other city agencies.
- Conduct background checks.
- Conduct hearings and act as a hearing officer.
- Receive training in and performs research and analyses into collective bargaining agreements, civil service and labor laws, and other material pertinent to labor relations.
- Coordinates and participates in labor management meetings and grievance hearings.
- May draft and conduct training as needed.
- Assists in the Office’s performance management program, including providing guidance to supervisory staff and fielding inquiries, as needed.
- Maintains spreadsheets, reports, and other information to track grievances, employee discipline, and performance management metrics.
- Collaborates with DCAS and OLR to ensure accuracy and compliance in title specifications and proposals.
- Prepare, review, evaluate and acts on all investigative reports and disciplinary recommendations and appropriate action.
- Organize investigative folders into categorized and chronological evidentiary packages
- Give testimony at administrative proceedings.
LABOR RELATIONS ANALYST - 13368
1. A master's degree from an accredited college in business or public administration, economics, labor or industrial relations, statistics, operations research or a closely related field; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in labor research and analysis, employee benefit design and evaluation, compensation analysis, labor economics, economic planning, or a related area; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college.
SPECIAL NOTE:
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, one year of additional professional experience as described in "2" above.
