Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The Fiscal Accountability Unit within the Deputy Commissioner, Management and Budget office is seeking one candidate as a Labor Law Investigator to support compliance oversight functions related to certified payroll review and prevailing wage monitoring through the NYC eComply system. The selected candidate will be responsible for reviewing contractor submitted payroll documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and verifying adherence to applicable labor standards and contractual requirements. The position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to conduct detailed reviews of financial and payroll records.

The selected candidates' responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Experience reviewing certified payroll reports or contractor compliance documentation
- Background in financial, fraud, or administrative investigations
- Familiarity with public works contracts, prevailing wage requirements, or labor compliance programs
- Experience using electronic compliance systems (e.g., eComply or similar platforms)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to prepare clear investigative reports and maintain organized case documentation

Minimum Qualifications


1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience as an investigator evaluating credit worthiness, searching for assets, verifying information concerning education, experience, and other personal qualifications bearing upon character and fitness for employment; or performing investigations involving the research, compilation and/or location of evidence or information in order to build a case or uncover activities of a criminal, corrupt, unlawful or unethical nature; or

2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits, from an accredited college, for one year of full-time experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

Residency Requirement


New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
