Job Description:
The Junior IT Operations Specialist is a foundational role within the IT Service Operations and Infrastructure Units. The IT Specialist will work alongside ASPEN and UPS operations teams to learn systems processing, perform tasks, and help optimize processes. Reporting to the Data Center Manager, the duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Understand processing dependencies with a focus on identifying automation and improvement opportunities
- Integrate monitoring systems into Enterprise Infrastructure. Monitor key performance indicators and assist with implementing automated solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce errors
- Provide first level support responding to system monitoring failures. Address incidents, perform root cause analysis and work with team to develop long-term solutions to prevent recurrence
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of how TRS IT systems interrelate. Engage in professional development, learning new technologies and systems relevant to the role
- Play a supportive role in IT projects under the guidance of the Service Operations Lead
- Assist in the development of a knowledge base, documenting solutions and creating guides
1. A baccalaureate degree, from an accredited college including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester credits in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of satisfactory experience in any of the areas described in “1” above; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2”, above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in “2” above on the basis that sixty (60) semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. In addition, twenty-four (24) credits from an accredited college or graduate school in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one year of experience.
- Experience with automation tools and scripting languages - Understanding of cybersecurity principles - Data analytics skills and the ability to derive insights from data Desired Certifications: - ITIL, Azure, AVD, Nerdio, M365, or other relevant tech certifications What You'll Need to Succeed: - Experience in a technical role, with a focus on system monitoring and operations - Basic knowledge of IBM iSeries system operation including interactive and scheduled jobs monitoring - Knowledge of Windows OS management and troubleshooting - Technical proficiency in windows and IBMi server operations, rigorous attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement in IT services and operational processes - Highly motivated, able to learn and retain a sound understanding of critical IT systems and be able to grasp the broader implications of the services TRS IT Operations provide
