Position Summary:
Under direction of the Infrastructure Architect, the Junior Network Engineer will design, implement, configure, manage, and monitor a complex hybrid-cloud network infrastructure. You will carry out research and decision-making on existing or emerging technologies. You will assess technological innovations and evaluate best of need services, processes, and support strategies. As a member of the Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure team, you are responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures that meet business objectives and SLAs. You will help set direction for the IT roadmap and domain architecture. You will identify new enabling technologies and platforms to help solve technical challenges, and you will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for one or more infrastructure solutions.
Management of the hybrid-cloud environment includes lifecycle management and escalated support. You will assess risk and implement mitigation strategies within the existing and/or proposed technology architecture. You will work with the team to align solution strategy and priorities. Your responsibilities include defining and updating documentation requirements, and you will assist with the preparation of documentation compliant with TRS’ governing frameworks and standard operating procedures and practices.
Role Expectations:
- Configure and install various network devices and services within TRS' physical and cloud environments (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS, VPC, vNet, security
groups, network access list)
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, security compliance and security configurations.
- Monitor performance, system and network bandwidth resource utilization, trending, capacity planning and ensure system availability and reliability.
- Provide Level 2 Infrastructure support for a complex interconnected technology real estate comprising of three cloud sites and physical datacenter(s).
- Responsible for the architectural design, development, and deployment of the agency’s systems.
- Defines system solutions-based requirements including integration with existing or proposed applications, systems, and platforms.
- Research, identify, select, and test technology products required for solution delivery. Establish, implement, and document the technology integration or migration strategies.
- Remain current with industry trends and new technologies for systems and network architecture.
- Perform technical research and development for long-term system and networking roadmap.
- Develop and maintain documentation relating to all assigned systems and networks.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Hands-on network engineering experience on LAN, WAN, SDN (Software-Defined network), VPN, Cloud and edge network including CISCO Routers, CISCO Switches, Checkpoint Firewalls, BGP routing, VLAN, Trunking, Port-Channel, WAF, IPS, DLP, AWS and Azure cloud networking.
- Experience in network monitoring and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, firewalls, or LAN/WAN)
- Solid understanding of network protocols (e.g. BGP, IPSec, 802.1x, QoS, HSRP, VTP).
- Solid understanding of OSI and TCP/IP model
- Knowledge of scripting (Json, PowerShell) for automation and configuration
- Knowledge of network threat protection Devices (Cloud Access Security Brokers, Data Loss Prevention, Proxy devices, Secure Web Gateways, WAN Accelerators & Optimizers)
Qualifications:
- Required 3+ years of hands-on experience with one or more networking technology, cloud computing, security including CISCO switches, routers, firewall, load balancer, security, AWS cloud and/or Azure cloud.
- Preferred Certification in one or more of the relevant technologies or disciplines (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, or similar)
1. A baccalaureate degree, from an accredited college including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester credits in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of satisfactory experience in any of the areas described in “1” above; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2”, above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in “2” above on the basis that sixty (60) semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. In addition, twenty-four (24) credits from an accredited college or graduate school in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one year of experience.
