The Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York (TRS) is a public pension fund that provides New York City educators with retirement, disability, and death benefits. The ITAM Apprentice at TRS will primarily focus on Software Asset Management (SAM) and Hardware Asset Management (HAM). This role involves ensuring the effective tracking, utilization, and optimization of IT assets. Additionally, the apprentice will offer support as a part of the service desk, ensuring a comprehensive experience in the organization's IT operations. The apprentice will report directly to the ITAM Administrator.
Roles and Responsibilities:
IT Asset Management (ITAM)
- Assist in the complete lifecycle management of software and hardware assets.
- Collaborate in the implementation and upkeep of SAM and HAM processes.
- Support the ITAM Administrator in conducting regular audits of IT assets.
- Contribute to updating and maintaining the IT asset database, ensuring its accuracy and compliance.
- Work with vendors and team on software licensing, renewals, and hardware warranties.
- In coordination with the ITAM administrator, produce regular reports on asset utilization, costs, and compliance.
Service Desk Support
- Provide support for service desk requests and address issues as they arise.
- Assist in software installations, updates, and patches.
- Work in tandem with the infrastructure team to address and resolve intricate issues, ensuring seamless IT operations.

1. A baccalaureate degree, from an accredited college including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester credits in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of satisfactory experience in any of the areas described in “1” above; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2”, above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in “2” above on the basis that sixty (60) semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. In addition, twenty-four (24) credits from an accredited college or graduate school in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one year of experience.
What You Need To Succeed: - A robust interest in ITAM and Service Desk combined with a drive to learn. - Basic understanding of software licensing, hardware components, and IT infrastructure. - Stellar communication skills, both written and verbal. - An analytical mindset coupled with meticulous attention to detail. - Ability to collaborate efficiently and operate under the guidance of the ITAM Administrator. - Previous experience or familiarity with service desk operations is a bonus. - Adaptability - The ability to quickly adjust to new challenges and changes in the IT environment. - Team Player - Willingness to collaborate with various departments and help team members when needed. - Problem-solving - A natural aptitude to think critically and find solutions to complex issues. - Integrity - Handling sensitive information with discretion and upholding the values of TRS. - Proactiveness - Taking initiative and foreseeing potential challenges, acting on them before they escalate.
