Job Description

The Department of Probation (DOP) is seeking an organized and detail-oriented IT Technical Writer to provide critical support to the IT Department. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Research and write technical materials, such as: operating and maintenance manuals, procedural documents, capital equipment requisitions, Requests for Proposals for technology equipment, and Return On Investment documents;
- Act as the designated contact for preparing and/or updating the division’s financial documentation, including budget analysis, capital and expense funding requests;
- Ensure the quality and of the division’s documentation;
- May serve as a project manager to coordinate projects, stakeholders and SMEs;
- Assess statistical, financial data - rates / price models, total cost of ownership with associated deliverables;
- Develop and implement schedules, technical objectives and requirements for business case approval;
- Understand from a vendor’s point-of-view the economies of the purchase and its inherent benefits to DOP;
- Document vendors’ offers and communicate issues that may arise from the requirements allowing DOP to gain a better outcome;
- Leverage research and data to drive writing executions of the CPs;
- Bring a pragmatic approach, leveraging resources while closely scheduling time;
- Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Hours/shifts are dependent on the needs of the Department. Candidates may be required to work various shifts including evenings and weekends.

IT PROJECT SPECIALIST - 95710
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
4. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in technical writing - Master’s Degree a plus - Proven ability to understand technology and to articulate technology concepts and proposals in clear, concise understandable terms through excellent written and oral communication skills - Writing samples will be required.
